Housing Kitsap
Housing Kitsap (Housing Authority) is an organization dedicated to the creation of affordable housing opportunities. The Authority is a public body, organized under the Housing Authorities Law of the State of Washington (RCW 35.82). The Authority created in 1982, became the first joint city-county housing authority in the state. The Authority's area of operation includes all of Kitsap County except the City of Bremerton, and has a total population of approximately 180,000. The Board of Commissioners of the Authority is comprised of the three Kitsap County Commissioners and the mayors or representatives of Poulsbo, Bainbridge Island, and Port Orchard, as well as a resident commissioner. The Authority's activities primarily involve administration of various federal housing programs and low rent Public Housing. The Authority also administers a federally funded Mutual Self-Help Housing Program funded by USDA Rural Development Services.
